Dosing and Metering Pumps

Dosing and metering pumps are small positive displacement pumps and are designed for metering a wide range of liquids, most especially chemicals. Basically, they inject fluid into a flow of steam, water, or gas. They provide an extremely precise flow rate for a wide range of applications from food processing to wastewater treatment, power generation, chemical processing, petrochemical, and oil and gas processes.

There are several types of dosing and metering pumps available for different types of applications. Industries can choose from the following, depending on their system requirements:

Dosing and Metering Pump Design

A dosing pump is a part of a bigger dosing system that consists of several components including the pump, the chemical tank, dosing line, injector, foot valve, and the control system. Dosing pumps vary in materials and size depending on the application and working fluid but generally, they come with an inlet, suction line, and dosing line.

On the other hand, a multistage borehole pump cannot accommodate high amounts of sand and is used efficiently only in delivering lower flows at high pressure unless equipped with a floating impeller design.

Dosing and Metering Pump Operation

Depending on the brand and model, a dosing pump functions in a variety of different methods. All these methods involve taking a measured amount of liquid into its chamber and then injecting the chemical into a pipe or a tank that contains the fluid that is being dosed. The pump is powered either by an air actuator or electric motor, while the control system serves as the on and off switch of the pump. The controller is also in charge of managing the flow rate of the dosing pump.
